Through the beginning of 2009, the sun stayed unusually quiet. A lot of excitement followed active regions that appeared on the far side of the Sun as glimpsed by the STEREO satellite mission. New sunspots are just the beginning of the long-awaited Solar Cycle 24! Keep checking the Space Weather Media Viewer, which offer multiple images "near-real time" from various NASA missions. More images (including STEREO) will be added, in addition to animations and videos, to show the Sun and its impact on our solar system. With the Viewer students and the general public can:
